Mai Kai food box, cooking and growing workshops are coming to Mayfair! Following more than six months of successful piloting in Napier, Mai Kai is now scaling up and recruiting members for new sessions in both Hastings and Napier. Mai Kai will be operating out of St Martins Hall on Willowpark Road every second Friday starting end of September.

If you or someone in your whānau or hapori would like to join, visit www.maikai.nz to register.

How it works
Every two weeks, Mai Kai members receive a grocery list, make their selections, and prepare their own jars, containers, and packaging (we all support the environment).

On pack-out day, Mai Kai sets up a market-style stall at a local community venue. Members gather to connect, learn, and share, discovering where their kai comes from, how it nourishes, and how to cook and grow it. Together, members pack their own boxes and contribute to set-up and pack-down, making the 1-hour session a shared act of community connection.

Accessibility and value
Mai Kai believes in universal access to nutritious kai. To ensure inclusivity, we operate a tiered payment system based on members’ circumstances. Thanks to collective buying power and wholesale rates, great value is maintained across all tiers.

For more information, including to see how Mai Kai runs, go onto our website www.maikai.nz or email or call admin@maikai.nz 022 589 5523

www.facebook.com/share/16DNpvY3fD/Archbishops’ Statement Regarding the Holy Land

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Israel and Palestine conflict has reached a grave tipping point, with famine now gripping Gaza. As Christians, we are called to act with moral clarity, to uphold the mana and tapu of every life, and to press for change that ensures food and medicine reach those in need, while urging all those with power to pursue peace for the region.

Over a hundred organisations plead: let lifesaving aid into Gaza. More than half a million-face famine, one in three go days without food, twelve thousand children were malnourished in July, and food prices have risen eightyfold. Without action to end Israel’s restriction of aid into Gaza, which international law requires to flow, mass starvation is certain.

All are suffering on both sides of this conflict. As the anniversary of 7 October 2023 draws near, the present injustice must be seen in the light of a much longer history of fear, trauma, and violence.
